Illinois State Flex Program
What is one Core Competency your state Flex Program is working on developing through Flex activities?
Selected Core Competency: Improving Financial Sustainability
The Illinois Flex program promotes the financial sustainability of critical access hospitals in a variety of ways. One of these ways is through education. Each year extensive training is done on proper billing and coding practices for the rural hospitals and rural health clinics. Accurate coding allows for timely and effective billing practices. The Flex program also provides speakers for various conferences targeted toward CEOs and CFOs of the hospitals. Another way Flex is promoting sustainability is through the Rural Health Leader Fellowship program. This provides current and future leaders the chance to do a deep dive into rural healthcare issues as well as learn leadership skills.
What is one activity your state is funding through SHIP?
One activity that Illinois is funding through SHIP for the FY2023 project period is ICD-11 Training for all Illinois hospitals participating in SHIP. The training will consist of a live virtual session presented by a subject matter expert. The session will be recorded and available for playback and/or for those unable to attend the live session. CEUs will also be available for attendees. The subject matter expert will also be accessible throughout the FY2023 project period for participant hospitals to ask about ICD-11-related matters.
