EMS Community Benefit Pilot Project

The Technical Assistance and Services Center (TASC), a program of the National Rural Health Resource Center, is initiating a project to pilot test a tool created by The Paramedic Foundation for rural ambulance services, the Community Benefit and Financial Distress Tool. This pilot test is being coordinated by TASC, with support from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP).

TASC would like to work with state Flex Programs to pilot this tool with rural ambulance services in your state. One goal of this project is to have rural ambulance services complete the tool and receive information about how to use the information the tool provides. Another goal is to gather and receive feedback about the tool and instruction set. Once we can do that, we will be able to finalize and release the tool publicly.

High-level Project Details

Our ask of state Flex Programs is to work with State EMS Offices to help engage rural ambulance services interested in assessing and confirming a monetary value to their community benefit activities and better understanding the impact and how to communicate that information to benefit their agency.

Participating ambulance services will receive ongoing technical assistance as needed to complete the pilot test of the tool. Once their data is complete in the tool, we will work with the ambulance service to confirm and finalize the information to translate their community benefit activities into a dollar amount. The ambulance service will then receive a call from a subject matter expert to review the information and receive recommendations on how to use this new information. As the purpose of the project is to improve the tool, we will ask for feedback from the ambulance service about their time using it.
